Lifting Up Our Educators: What Local Teachers Really Need

August 12, 2025 · by johntarheel76

As the new school year approaches, a topic that’s often on the minds of parents and community members is how to support our local teachers. While school-provided lists are a great start, the reality is that many educators spend a significant amount of their own money to ensure their classrooms are well-equipped and their students have what they need to succeed. The requests are often for basic, yet essential, items that get used up quickly throughout the year. From paper and dry-erase markers to cleaning supplies like wipes and hand sanitizer, these everyday necessities create a safe, organized, and functional learning environment.

Beyond the fundamental supplies, many teachers express a need for things that foster a more engaging and inclusive classroom. This can include books for a diverse classroom library, art supplies for creative projects, or even snacks and hygiene products for students who may come to school without them. The best way to help is to simply ask. Many teachers have wish lists on sites like Amazon or DonorsChoose, or they may be a part of a local “Adopt-a-Classroom” program. By reaching out to a local teacher or school, you can provide targeted support that truly makes a difference in the lives of our students and educators.
